I am thinking of starting on "just feed oats." My horses are both easy keepers and I am wondering about the amount of oats to feed per body weight? They are on 12% sweet feed now and their body condition is very good. When I slowly transition them to oats will I have to feed more oats than I am now feeding sweet feed?
Just gradually switch to the same volume now giving of the sweet feed. Then after a few weeks you can tell whether you need to increase or decrease depending on how the horse is satisfied etc. Unfortunately there is no magic amount. More of an art than science and each horse is different which is one of the very reason this feeding for success works so well
Thanks for asking!
