discussion with Kim. (she loves our products!)

Hi, I just starting using the RED CAL ,  Just Add Oats and Weight Check Oil feeding  program for our 2 horses and love it. However,  the question for this email is my friend is in Mexico (from US but there on extended visit) and her dog has worms. What can we recommend to expel them at this stage? FYI-she had him on Heartguard!!

Thanks in advance for your response on a product to recommend.

Kim B.

For sure nothing over the counter… it took me 3 years to find the right combination of ingredients for our product called Worm Check and was created for horses but people use it for their pet's health too.

Unfortunately I have tried to ship to Mexico in the past but with little success .. I would ask a veterinarian there as what types of worms it is— this is an important part of treatment and such may be specific to that geographical area.

Wish I could help more.

Thanks, I am not sure what type [of worms it is] but forwarded your email….

Also, just sent in our horse fecals for parasite testing [Worm Check Exam]… Will be ordering more products from your site!

My sister saw and spoke to you at Ohio Equine Affaire and we are fans!! I am in Massachusetts, she is in Evans City PA.
Thanks again, Kim

Thank You for your support Kim. I am glad I got to meet your sister.

Shandy asks about grain in spring and summer…

Thank you for you great products, my two horse have been on them for 8 mos and look and feel beautiful!

The ferrier said their feet have NEVER looked so good!

My question, we are blessed with 10 acres of beautiful grass for 2 horses, (new home this past year) typically they don't need hay or whole oats during the spring / summer because the grass is so full.

Would you suggest still giving a minimal amount so I can add oil and minerals?  Red Cal is still available year around.

Thanks again!

Shandy

Thanks for sharing the great results Shandy. And by all means, the answer is YES to continue to provide the supplements and grain… grass just won't  "cut it ". :-)

I appreciate your support. Thanks for asking!

what Jenny posted on my Facebook Wall (thanks Jenny!)

I am reminded of one of my favorite quotations— this from a Robert Frost poem:

"Two roads diverged in a wood, and I–
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

from Jenny…

Dr. Dan, I would like to thank you on behalf of my mom. One month ago, she purchased your products for her Jack Russel Terrier. He had allergies so bad that he was on allergy shots every 2 weeks, and steroids on top of that to help stop the itching. After much prodding from me, she ordered Health Check, Aller Check and Omega check and switched him to the Innova dog food (as suggested- and away from the Vet recommended food).

After just one month, he is completely itch free. Yes, I said COMPLETELY itch free. NO MORE SHOTS, NO MORE STEROIDS!!! Yes, amazing, but it's what i expected. All 6 of my horses are on your products. All healthy, happy, and loving life. Expensive? yes. Worth it? Absolutely.

Thanks again for coming over to the "dark side" ;-)

Natural Vet  (I said)

Thank you Jenny for sharing this. What a wonderful post to find waiting for me on my wall when I logged in this morning after a couple of weeks working away at the Equine Affaire and Midwest Horse Fair. I will be posting this to the blog as well. I appreciate the support and encouragement from you both. Thank You.

what Sherry asks AND SAYS about RED CAL…

Hello Dr. Dan:

A friend recommended the Red Cal supplement to me for my three horses and one pony. No one would touch it. She said not to worry… just keep it out for them "free choice". She said she sees the horses go after it when there is a big weather change.

Voila. That is what happened. When a storm is blowing in, the horses tear into their buckets of Red Cal.

Is there an explanation for this behavior? I'm going to keep using it. It's the ONLY salt product any of my horses will touch at all.

Thank you.

Absolutely.! The article called "Perfect Pastures"  and the one on "Salt and Minerals" that is available in the magazine and other links http://WhatToFeedYourHorse.com and http://DrDanLibrary.com (as referenced below) explains the issue with potassium and why it is so important. Thanks for sharing and asking!

Dr Dan

Perfect pastures Article- PDF

I plan to contact the local TV station weather forecaster and tell him to come monitor the horse's RC buckets.  ;-)

I keep reading magazine articles that talk about forcing 2 oz per day of plain salt on horses…mine simply do not want that much salt no matter what the form.  I feel a little better knowing that they have something there they they will take when they need it.

Thank you Dr. Dan,
Sherry

Lora asks… Where are your products manufactured?

Where are your products manufactured?
Thanks,
Lora

Depends on the product., but ALL in the US. Some our products are made 10 tons at a time. Others 200. Some specialize in pastes others ointments, liquids etc so…..everywhere from Florida to Kentucky to Wisconcin to Michigan…but again all in the US.

Thanks for asking.

Thanks Dr. Dan.  Just what I wanted to hear, "all in the US."

My horses have been fed your products for five plus years.  My 30 year old plus mixed breed is fed Weight Check, Red Cal (a little with feed and free choice), Just Add Oats (fed with oats and a timothy/alfalfa pellet mash 3x day), Hoof Check and Joint Check.

My 17 year old Thoroughbred is fed Weight Check, Red Cal (a little on feed and free choice), Just Add Oats (with a timothy pellet mash 3x day) Health Check, and Hoof check.  Bug Check and Color Check for both seasonally.

They are both thriving and just beautiful to look at.  They play all day long and you wouldn't know Jack was a senior citizen unless I told you.

I also use your grape seed and marigold balms when needed and your topical hoof products.

Love your products, web site, and to attend your lectures when I am able to.

Keep sharing your knowledge with us, you are making a difference!

Cheers,

Lora

Cindy asks some questions: Re-evaluating her herd, our feeding program, our supplements…..

Hello Dr. Dan,

I have been feeding our herd of 21 equines your "What To Feed Your Horse" program since August 2010 and have been very pleased with all the results.

In addition, I also have a few "special needs" ones here who have been getting additional supplements such as Aller Check and Joint Check, also with good results.  Now I am at the point of re-evaluating a few who seem to be not quite up to their health potential and would like some suggestions.

First is Rood D Tuesday a senior UK Shetland who came to us blind in one eye and recently diagnosed with Glacoma in his good eye. He is on the basic program, plus Joint Check and Aller Check and given the Marigold first aid oiltment on the weepy eye days. Is there anything else I can do to make him more comfortable?

I would probably just try using the marigold daily for a week or two to see if the increase in frequency might help

Next is Rica, a 15yr Paso Fino who has been founder/abcess prone since the age of two. Currently she is doing alright on the basic plus AllerCheck and Joint Check and Thyrol-L from the vet,but I wonder if there is something more I should be doing?

The problem with Thyroid meds is they shut the thyroid down. (called a negative feed back mechanism.. the meds essentially take over for the thyroid but the tyroid is responsible for so much more metabolism wise than what a synthetic hormone can provide..  I thus don't use! I would consider the Critical Care Thyroid/overweight formula (pricey but nothing like it) to help provide  nutrients to actually trigger the thyroid to start working. Just "shutting it down" with a synthetic med can lead to many problems as  the thyroid regulates the whole metabolism which includes much more then what can be achieved through a synthetic medication… just makes more sense to try to get it going again. my suggestion is wean off the med as you increase the critical care. I go by symptoms rather than blood work anyway as the tests quite frankly aren't that reliable anyway. Of course typical vets have no clue about such and only know the thyroid med route so discussing with them is pretty much useless

Next is Goliath a senior UK Shetland with Cushings Hypothyroid and appears COPD also.  He is on the basic, plus Aller Check and Joint Check. I took him off the pergolide since I wasn't seeing any improvement what so ever.

Increase the Joint Check and Aller Check to a level that seems to help the most. any amount is only healthy  start by doubling what now giving.

Last but not least Little Chief a senior mini who probably should be helped to the Rainbow Bridge but he seems to still have a desire to stay here IMO.Cushings and founder prone as well and very low weight. He is also on the basic with extra weight Check oil added twice daily and Aller Check and Joint Check. I think that about covers it for now.

Same as above, increase Aller Check and Joint Check amounts to what helps the most.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
Thank you,

Cindy B.

Thank you Cindy! Let me know how all is going after a month or so.

Thanks For Asking!

Judy asks about build up of gunk on horse’s back leg…

Hi Dr. Dan, I have a draft cross that everyday has a buildup of black gunk on his back legs. The vet said it is a overproduction of something in his skin, and she had a big long word for it, and I should just curry it off. Is there anything I can do to get rid of it? I also just started taking  REDOXX, and I love it! I have more energy and more focus, and feel better.

Thanks, Judy C.

Do you remember what she called it Judy? Was it scratches?

Regardless, if you would listen to the the audio on "thrush white line and other ichy stuff" in the library section of our website that would be a good start as to such issues. Also there is an article on icky skin there too.  All applies for sure!

Topically our Grape Balm Herbal ointment… but the key is to help the body "discharge" whatever and not put more back in. Such "discharge" of the "junk" that comes from hydrogenated fats, chemicals etc. check out the www.whattofeedyourhorse.com for the ideal feeding program I suggest as well.

REDOXX is a product that not one person should be without… just giving your body what it needs can produce amazing benefits!

Thanks Judy!

Answering Lois and her question about feline hyperthyroidism…

Hii – I use your equine products and LOVE them!

I was wondering if you had anything to help support my two cats who both are iin the beginning stages of hyperthyroidism. My younger cat is not showing any clinical signs yet other than the enlarged nodule, but my 16 yr old is starting to lose weight and I don't want to put her on pharmaceuticals  – can you help?
— Lois B.

PS – met you at the Equine Affaire in Springfield  - absolutely great products!!

Thanks so much for asking!

My personal feeling on hyperthyroidism in cats is that it is environmental. Used to be (way back when I was in Vet School) that it was just a problem with cats in the big cities. Specifically NY, LA and Boston. Of course now it is everywhere. With this in mind, I would focus to support detoxing of the liver and the body in general. In other words help get rid of the "junk" and not put more back in.

"Product wise", I would suggest our REDOXX (a people product) at 1 capsule daily (break open onto the feed) for an average size cat. I would start with 2 capsules daily for the first 2 weeks. I would also consider our pet products… Omega Coat Check oil for the rich source of fatty acids and our Health Check supplement for pets also.

Finally, I would be very careful about food, future vaccinations, medicines etc. The food I prefer for pets presently is INNOVA.
Specifically for the problem I don't have the answer but generally speaking the above may help if anything will nutritionally. I have had several to benefit over the past decade.  Again thanks for asking and for the kind words about our equine products!

Melodie shares her Marigold Pocket Healer story for “Gypsy”…

I hope it has been a great  Thanksgiving weekend. Thank you to all of you that passed along Thanksgiving wishes to me and my family.

The greatest joys sometimes come from the littlest things…

I guess it's always been human nature to forget about the little things that bring you or someone joy. There's plenty of stories, quotes and songs that have been shared through the years to remind us not to forget the "little things".

Who does not thank for little will not thank for much.
~~~ Estonian Proverb
I appreciate our customers and I get great joy from those that purchase and use our products that are compelled to share a story about just what our products are worth to them. I know what they sell for, I know what they cost to produce but the testimonials and the loyalty of our customers are a true measure of their worth.
The glow of one warm thought is to me worth more than money.
~~~Thomas Jefferson

Below is the text of an email from one of our loyal customers that not only wanted to share with me but also wanted me to be sure to share with others.

Marigold Healer

And the thing is, it's about one of our "little" products that goes unnoticed and oftentimes unordered- while it would be so easy and economical just to add on so that you too will have within easy for those special times you'll need it.

This little product is our Marigold Pocket Healer or Tub and here is one person's special story.

Enjoy…

Hi Dr Dan,

Sorry to disturb your holiday weekend. Happy Thanksgiving and Happy Holidays.

Gypsy has had an on an off eye infection. Some time ago I did call a vet afraid to mess with it, after three weeks of her meds not working I tried pocket healer, in one use, just one, the infection backed off. Today her eye was watering like the onset of an infection, my trainer accidently put the wrong med in her eye… grape balm healer in the black jar, this was 7 hours ago, it was not completely clean either. She is still only two and there is no real way for a flush.

What should I expect and… can I go ahead now and immediately put pocket healer in it, or is there something that would conflict?

Thank you so much for your time and caring,
 Melodie

Marigold healer

You did what I would have done…..
 Marigold Pocket Healer!

Truth is I don't know what grape balm will do… Maybe nothing and may even help… but it definitely burns fresh wounds (yet heals great).  Please keep me informed.

Personally I would continue marigold several times daily.

 Dan

 ——————————————————-

Thank you so much for your getting right back to me. I did go out and use the pocket healer.

The first time I talked with you about this you did tell me that I could use the pocket healer, because I asked you about it, you told me though that with the eye, you would not mess with it.

That other vet was a huge mistake on my part for a number of reasons. I want you to know to use as a reference to others, that she gave me two different conventional medicines. It took more than a week for the infection to start to back off, but if I started to back down on the meds it would be completely back within 24 hours. Her second try was better… but never could get Gypsy's eye to stay not infected for even three days.

I decided to go with my real belief and faith in the natural as you had told me it (Marigold Healer) could go in the eye. Within one use, and I waited to see what the response would be, the infection just started staying gone.

After a few times the infection just stayed gone for months. Unbelievable difference, like night and day, no success to complete success.

I think she has an allergy from the hay because it snowed and I have fed straight hay and it started back up. I would love it and it would help many who may be skeptical, if you use this message, or another I would be happy to write, as a reference.

 Thank you again,
 Melodie

Brenda with an update on Megan for us all…

Hi Dr Dan,
Just thought you would like an update on my little girl Megan……..after only 4 months her thyroid levels are in normal ranges. She loves her whole oats with Weight Check Oil and Just for Oats diet! I saw positive attitude and activity results in just weeks but the truth was in her blood work. I do believe your supplements and especially your Critical Care OHI have saved her life. We've gotten back in the showpen and she's so willing and happy and responsive.

It's been an amazing change of so many things with her prior condition. Please pass me along if anyone is having doubt about making these changes to diet and such. I followed your every direction and I'm so glad I listened to your advice and challenged the norm!!
And you know what…as pricey as the changes seemed in the beginning(as you know I went full boat), it was far cheaper than vet bills and prescription fees and the risks with the usual medications.

Thank you Dr Dan!
Brenda K.

How much longer should I keep her on the Critical Care OHI formula?
She has lost pretty much all her weight that she needed to loose but is still a little bit cresty on the neck only and that seems to still be diminishing…no longer at the dock at all…….
Thanks so much for sharing Brenda- that is great news for sure!

After the crest is gone for a month or so u can stop CC.

Again thanks!
