Krista with horse & donkey feeding questions…

Hello Dr. Dan, I have a few questions for you in regards to your product and recommendations.

I currently feed Pennfields Fibergized Omega grain, but not the reccomended amounts of course, so supplementing  yet unsure of balance. That led me to your product, I prefer the idea of trying to have my horses be as close to what they would be in nature, so oats make sense!

However I also have 3 Mini Donkeys, do you reccomend your products for donkeys also?

Also my herd are all easy keepers, age ranges are 5 month donkey, 4 year old draft, up to a 16 year old pony, could I use the weight control omega oil for all of them? Currently I use canola oil for my drafts, an EPSM diet as reccomended by Dr. Beth Valentine, so I would assume that your oil would meet that requirement also?

Lastly one of my drafts is currently on antibiotics,I have him on power gest by Select, you offer a probiotic is that suggested for horses when on antibiotics?

Sorry for all the questions I just want to be sure of all factors before switching their feed program over.

Thank you for your help and time.

No problem, glad to help…

Our program will work for all of your horses and yes donkeys as well. Just gradually switch from the same volume of commercial feed now giving to oats. To those oats add the Just Add Oats and the Weight Check oil. I would use the Hi Mag version of RED CAL (free choice all they can eat at all times on this) at least until all are back to normal weight. I would highly suggest our Weight Check oil instead of canola.

I really really dislike canola for horses, pets, people, even guinea pigs. Truth is I hate it period! do a search and see for yourself on the many problems associated with it.

Our Gut Check is so much more than probiotics. It includes prebiotics as well as enzymes to really support  the gut as well.

Thanks For Asking!

Julie’s 12 Yr Old Quarter Horse w/ diarrhea…

Hi Dr. Dan,
I have a 12 year old quarter horse mare who has had diarrhea for the past 6 months.

I feed alfalfa in am & forage in pm. She has always drank tons of water since we have had her (7yrs) I mean lots of water! she acts fine & looks great… but she must be uncomfortable.. and i do have to wash he rear everyday. i have tried probiotic paste and did help.. but the tube only gives you 2 doses.. how much can i safely give her and might you have some reccomendations on where to start with her?

Thank you very much,
Julie

Please consider our feeding program and our Gut Check as an additional supplement. I have seen hundreds helped to say the least.

The website called www.whattofeedyourhorse.com contains an audio I did that explains my suggestions. The Gut check is in addition to this feeding program. it contains not simply probiotics but also prebiotics and enzymes which really support the gut.

Again thanks and enjoy the articles, websites etc. below.

Terri’s 2 yr old stallion Allergic to Something…

I just thought I would e-mai you and see what you have to say about this.

I have a 2 year old stallion that is allergic to something!!

He has got popcorn like bumps on him and I put him on benedryl twice a day and he gets better for a time and then he breaks right back out again.  He is on grass hay and alfalfa cubes twice a day and fresh water.

I have no idea what else to do and am getting very discouraged and baffled.

Thank you for your time, Terri

I speak to hundreds about such each year if not thousands-  truth is the "something" that he is allergic to simply does not matter! The benedryl really only covers the symptoms for a short while but YES it comes back because the problem is still there.
The problem is that the immune system is compromised, severely hyper sensitized such that generally about anything "triggers the reactions". Blows my mind how most allergy tests come back allergic to everything that you can’t possibly keep a horse away from. many things are the source of such "junk" hyper sensitization: commercial feeds, vaccines, drugs, chemicals, hydrogenated fats etc etc.

So the answer is to help get rid of such"junk" internally (and not put more back in) and then support the immune system.  we do this by getting them off commercial feeds with all the junk they contain. Our Feeding program consists of Oats not commercial feed (see the website below called what to feed your horse and listen to the audio). Oats are not complete (nor are the corns, wheat midlings, etc that is put in commercial complete feed) though thus they must be supplemented. our Just Add Oats supplement and our Weight Check oil is what "man" knows is needed for this.

Finally our RED CAL should be offered free choice at all times. this replaces salt blocks (useless and full of "junk" too.. see page 31 of the magazine for article on salt and minerals) and does so very much more. it is "mother Natures" product so it picks up the pieces so to speak on perhaps ingredients man has not yet even discovered. do read the article, see the video in the library section etc. for further info. NOW to support the detox of the "junk" in the system you should consider our Health Check supplement.

Finally to support the immune system our supplement called Aller Check is highly suggested.

This has helped many. Chances are it will help yours too. it may not but I can think of only a few that it hasn’t .. those most likely it did as well, just that owners were perhaps not patience enough to see the results.

It is seriously much less pricey than all the alternatives (drugs, shots, chemicals etc. that essentially cover and make worse over the long hall)

Enjoy the further info suggested (links below) and look forward to improvement.
Thanks for asking!

Vicky asked a question about mange (and neem)

Hi Dr. Dan,

My question is regarding neem oil for dogs with mange.

My dog has not been diagnosed officially by the vet but we have and appointment tomorrow and I have heard neem oil is a good remedy that is not as toxic as some of the other treatments commonly given for this.  She is 6 years old with intense itching around the mouth, feet and legs.  She has been diagnosed with allergies in the past but she was exposed to another dog with the derm mange and her symptoms seem more severe this time.  What is you opinion of neem oil and it’s use and do you have any other suggestions in this situation. Thank you so much for your time in this matter and Dixie Lee thanks you too!

Vicky

Neem is a wonderful ingredient. But demodectic mange is not contagious nor is it itchy. (This is an immune system issue)  Sarcoptic is both itchy and contagious.

Please see the article on allergies in the Library and magazine. Even though written for horses it applies to dogs as well.

My suggestions:
I suggest an all natural food. The brand I like is called innova. I would also suggest our aller Check supplement and our Omega coat check oil supplement (per versions) to put onto the food. Our bug check for pets could only help regardless of cause. Our Shoo flea now actually has some neem in it too. The marigold pocket healer would be excellent for any open sores.

Thanks for asking!!

Linda asked about feeding her colts…

I recently got a colt that was born in May 2009.
Mmy question is, he was gelded in August and also had to have some corrective surgery done on his front legs. He seems sort of small for his age and underweight. A 200-300 lb. size halter is way too big for him, what is a normal weight for him?

Is his height and weight going to be stunted? He is registered with paint club but is solid with blaze and 4 white socks. When I got him a week ago I feed him grass hay and whole oats.

His mother and him were only given poor quality pasture and grass hay. No grain and free choice salt and mineral blocks.

What is the best way to feed him with whole oats and does he need all alfalfa hay or can it be grass? How many oats does he need? He is a pretty little fellow with a super disposition.

Sounds beautiful! No way for me to say what his size should be though.

Follow the instructions/info on the  What To Feed Your Horse website below. It works as the basics for any horse.  I would in addition to following the specific advise there add the joint Check supplement. (Past problems, meds etc why).

Remember that oats are not enough. They must be supplemented. The site will explain what else is needed. (Just Add oats supplement and our Weighty check oil plus Red Cal free choice all the time) generally 1 percent of body weight daily for the amount of grain (oats) suggested. But for some this is too much and others too little – just have to see how they do but it is a good starting point.

I do suggest adding some alfalfa for some extra protein since he has had issues.

Kelly about Detoxing/Supplements

I have a mini mare who is rubbing herself raw in places. I have treated her with iodine and medicated anti fungal shampoo solutions. Last fall she was pulled out of a field full of golden rod and misc. weeds.

I am afraid may still be processing some of the toxins she digested. I do have her on a good feeding and worming program, and she is still shedding out so there may be marked improvement as time progresses. I just added Clovite which has made marked improvements in coat condition in the past (even in my cats). If toxins are the issue with this mare, do you have a supplement that might help detoxify her system?

My next course of action would be to try your allergen product, but I’m really looking for liver support similar to the one my naturopath reccomends for people…

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Kelly K.

It really doesn’t matter what she IS allergic to. I have found that allergy tests ALWAYS turn out to be allergens that you can’t possibly eliminate from the environment.

The key is to detox (liver etc as you suggest) and get off commercial feed the biggest sources of allergens overall. AND support the immune system. So… see the first article in the magazine which is about allergies And the link below on what to feed your horse. I deal with hundreds of allergy cases yearly. They are always allergic to everything per the previous testing (most have already been to the vet schools etc. Before I see them) they do great when you change the feed and properly supplement.

I suggest our Just add oats, our Weight check oil and Red Cal as the feeding program. To support the liver in detoxing our Health check (page 36 of magazine for ingredients) and our Aller Check to support the immune system.

You might also search this site for more about Allergies using the search box at right>

our “PLUS” Advantage (for people)

Hello Dr. Dan,

It’s great to find you again!
One of your distributors shared an email with me about the
PLUS Advantage and I was wondering what makes this
better than the old New Image Plus?

Thanks Dr. Dan and take care,

Tina

It’s an updated formula that was developed working
with… well, let’s just say a "trusted manufacturer" :-)

Besides being in a capsule (90 to a bottle)
and having an increased and safe amount of Chromium
among a couple of other added key ingredients
to the original formula it is still verrrrry
comparable in price (even after all these years!)

Please get back with that person and learn more about
the purchasing options. In the meantime, you and others
can review the information at this page:

Claudia…Horses are loving RedCal, but…

I have two horses and have put both on the free choice Red Cal.

Since May I have purchased 4 bags of Red-Cal and we are almost out again.  Will they ever slow it down?  I figure I am getting a third of what you say a bag should last.

I am very pleased with the product but maybe I should switch to High Mag?

They tend to be easy keepers.

If they are eating it they need it. :-)

Some horses take longer than others to get balanced.

Only if they are overweight perhaps even with cresty necks, fat pongs etc. would I then switch to the hi mag formula of Red Cal.

Hang in there. They will "balance out".

P.S.
Are they on the entire feeding program? See and listen to the info/audio below. I highly suggest it. These commercial feeds are terrible!

Thanks For Asking Claudia
What To Feed Your Horse?

ADDED:

thanks, for the reply, they love the red cal.  It tickles me to watch them eat it.
They are not on the entire feeding program.  I was trying to figure the cost.  How much do you estimate the cost to be on it per horse?  Red cal, just add oats, oats, h2oil?

The JAO and the oil (I really like the weight Check better than the H2oil by the way) each run about 50 cents per day per horse in the larger sizes. It is awesome. Thanks!

Claudia asked…hat kind of oil is Weight Check and I feed them both 2 oz. one times a day?  one 750lbs, other is 1500lbs.

Crude unrefined soy bean oil like in H2oil but GMO free. It is just giving better results overall.

June asked about horses’ sarcoids and warts…

Hi Dr. Moore,

You spoke to the Arabian Horse Club a couple of years back and I wanted to ask you about sarcoids and/or warts.

About a year ago my horse had what looked like a small wart (a little smaller than a pea) come up on his shoulder.  I had him at the vet to have his teeth floated this past April and the vet clipped the hair in the area and snipped it off while he was sedated.  He said that it could be a wart or possibly a sarcoid and that it may come back. I took him back to the vet probably about (1) month later for x-rays on his knee after a fall at an endurance ride.

At this time, I pointed out that another of these "warts" had appeared on his head just below his ear on the side of his face.  He snipped that one off also.  After another couple of months the first one on the shoulder did not come back on the surface of the skin but the area where he clipped the hair has a lumpy mass underneath.  The one on the side of the face seems to have come back in the same area with several smaller ones, not large at all but noticeable and the skin seems darker in this araa.  Another one has come up about the size of a pea on the inside near the tip and edge of his ear.

Any suggestions on treating this with herbs or any topical solution?

Thanks, June

Sometimes when the body produces such nodules it is a way of the body trying to discharge something.. toxins, etc. for instance. Cutting them off only confuses the body and usually they do come back or worse yet go deeper and cause other problems.

The key to is "help" the body discharge rather than confuse. I would suggest our Aller Check to boost the immune system and our Grape Balm topically. If anything will help nutritionally. Please also  see the info on feeding and others located within the Library and Magazine (links all below)

K.S. asked weed control & “people product” questions…

Hi Dr. Dan,

I have two questions:

We are planning on applying lime to the pasture to try to control weeds and wondered how long horses should be kept off after application.

Secondly, I have an enlarged thyroid, have been going through various tests and the doctor has identified abnormal cells and recommended surgery to removed the thryoid.  He feels probability of cancer is 70%.  I will try anything to avoid surgery and have been taking Chinese herbs for the last month as well as increasing Redoxx to 6 caps/day. Size of the goiter has decreased from 2 1/4" to 1 3/4".

Would you recommend a different Redoxx dosage or additional supplement?

Many thanks- K.S.

Rather than spray weeds consider making the soil healthier with more lime. As for herbicide time. It just depends on what the labels says. Personally I would double whatever that says.

I would keep up the Redoxx and add Enhance Factor as well.

Hang in there!!

Patricia- feeding older horse (NO Beet Pulp!)

Dear Dr. Dan,

I have a poor doing 19 year old Arab gelding with poor coat and he was diagnosed as allergic to most grains. His teeth are prematurely worn for his age. He came off a ranch and was only fed whole oats , hay and pasture. I never fed him complete or sweet feeds. Only oats and free choice grass hay.He has gained weight on beet pulp and 2 # of alfalfa cubes daily.

He has access to your RedCal free choice. Fre choice grass hay and limited pasture. He is never stalled. He has a mottled hair coat where hair has come back but it is much lighter than the rest of his coat. He has had hair loss all over his body. He has a bay coat. He looks dappled from far away but that is because the hair is so much lighter where it came in this spring after having so much hair loss and dry, dull coat last year.

What products can you recomend that might my older horse? I do not worm unless I do a fecal first. I am not feeding any oats since the vet did allergy testing and he was positive to most grain products. He also gets a flaxseed product with added vitE and selinium as per my vet. I read alot of your articles in your library but find little as to how to feed an older horse in a compromised state of health.

Thank you for any help that you might be able to provide.

Sincerely, Patricia G.

An older gets the same as a younger one (see the website below called www.whattofeedyourhorse.com) with a few exceptions.

First you can soak the oats overnight (forget the allergy testing issue… I have dozens of horses specifically allergic to oats that get oats -never an issue) to those oats add our Just add oats supplement and our Weight check oil (typical amount is 2 oz daily but I would give 4 oz for now) Keep the Red Cal of course too. I would consider the Joint Check too especially if the age has him slowing down any.

The Bug Check I do suggest for all horses anyway. If the allergies are currently an issue I would add the Aller Check but generally this is not needed long term. Gut Check will help any horse get more "goody" out of whatever he eats.

Also Please Stop the beet pulp. It has NO nutrition except fiber (hay is cheaper anyway) and actually sucks the nutrition right out of the gut and has the potential for pesticides too. You will not need the vit e selenium either with the above.

Larissa about “feeding my horse with allergies”

We brought a 23 year old Quarter Horse with food allergies home three days ago.

He’s been on beet pulp and low quality hay, and I really don’t want to keep him on such a low nutrient diet any longer. His weight is fine. Also he’s been eating a ton of free choice mineral and salt. Like he hasn’t had any in a long time.

His food allergies (from the spot test report) are oats, rice bran, corn and oat pollen, corn, fescue, redtop, vernal, and bahia grasses and we have to watch him on fresh alfalfa. He also gets allergy shots once a month.

What can we feed him that would be better than beet pulp?

Any suggestions would be great.

Thanks,

Larissa

My suggestion is oats… I know they say he is allergic and the test shows but truth is "what they are allergic to" simply doesn’t matter when it comes to oats. I have dozens and dozens of such cases that have done great and none I repeat none that has had any issue whatsoever.

Of course, the oats must be supplemented properly. See the website below on "what to feed".

It applies here with this horse. Also replace whatever salt and mineral you have with our Red Cal product. See the article called "Perfect Pastures" and the one on Salt and Mneral as well as the one on Allergies… all in the Library and in the magazine.

I would add our Aller check supplement to until at least he has improved greatly.

Kathy asked about caring for 8 acres of hay…

After listening to your CD I wanted to find out particularly how to care for our 8 acres of hay.

We would normally spray to kill the weeds and then fertilize it too. So when you said on the CD to call or email and you would tell us what to do…..here ya go.

What else do you need to know? Please answer make your answer very basic as if we didn’t know anything but the old way of doing things……….

Thanks,
Kathy

The real key is to "lime" like crazy! If you have weeds chances are it needs lots of Lime. How much is tough to say. Local people who spread such generally have a good idea. pH Test soil testing helps but it still is good to ask how much is "typically" needed in the area. I always use a higher amount than called for anyway. it can never hurt. either pelleted or regular is fine.

As for fertilizers, that is the difficult part because each area of the country has different sources. Of course some sort of natural product is best but you just have to ask around to see. the salt based typical 10-10-10 type are the issue and cause the most problems. even a liquid but not "salt based" would be better than typical….. again  though, I don’t have much advise here because the availability of such is tough to even find.  we are working on such however. good old horse or manure works great.. never use chicken manure though  way to much nitrogen.

Thinking of starting a file of "whats available where" so let me know what you find so I can advise others in your area if asked.

Thanks Kathy!

Pam’s question about Underweight I/R horse…

Dr Dan,  I own a 27 yr old QH gelding who came from a poor background. First from starvation, then overuse. He’s been mine for 10 years now, and in spite of all the "healthy" expensive low carb high fat foods and supplements, he has a hard time maintaining an appropriate weight and body condition.

He also gets grass hay and daily pasture turnout. He has been diagnosed as IR, and does have high insulin levels. Also on thyroid med (just the low side of normal). He has not been vaccinated in 6 years, and  has been on herbal wormer for 7 months.

Two years ago he had a colic episode that required surgical removal of a huge lipoma and 5 ft of intestine. He pulled through it all very well. He has always had much abdominal gas, and still does.  In spite of all my TLC, his food/supplement program doesn’t seem to be working for him. Any suggestions?

Thank You —  Pam

Sounds like you are certainly trying. I applaud your efforts. I am sure we can help.

I really hate to see people waste money on commercial feeds that are full of the very "junk" that cause such issues to begin with. ingredients such as hydrogenated fats are killing us and killing them. Shame the industry has not recognized this yet… but it is a tough situation for feed companies. Such bad processed fats are the only thing that can sit in a hot feed room in the bag and not go rancid and they are cheap as well.

Of course we suggest crude, unrefined, not processed fats. I prefer our Weight Check oil for good fat. In your case to get the weight on , I would give 4 to 6 oz . of course gradually work up to that amount. 2 oz later will maintain weight and if they need to lose will help them do so as well. You add this "good fat" to oats. You also need to add our Just Add Oats vitamin , mineral, enzyme supplement. AND offer our RED CAL free choice at all times. the feeding program audio/info at www.WhatToFeedYourHorse.com  explains all this.

Chances are, over time you could even back off and eventually wean off the thyroid meds. Many many horses have! with the above program. Thyroid meds actually shut the thyroid down. removing the bad fats from his diet AND providing nutrients that may stimulate again could get it functioning again.

One other supplement I would suggest in your case would be the Gut Check since he has had gut issues in the past. Also the Health Check would be the icing on the cake as a potent anti-oxidant formula to help even more get rid of past "junk".

Terry’s questions,

1).  Is this bug check recommended for internal parasites in dogs and cats?  Also, if not, what is recommended?  Also, does it kill the parasites internally and the dogs dispose of the parasites through defacation?

2).  Customer wants to know if you have heard of Hulda Clark.  Hulda Clark recommends Cloves, and black walnut tincture for internal parasites.  What is your thinking on this?

3).  Have you heard about Grapeseed extract being hard on the dogs’ kidneys?

Bug Check  Not suggested for internal parasites (But certainly may help).

Also go to www.wormcheck.com there is an article on there called "oh crap" published in Wellness magazine.

This article does discuss the need for fecal exams to ascertain even a need for internal deworming. This is true for pets as well as horses (From overuse of chemical dewormers for so long this is extremely important) It doesn’t however help keep flies, fleas and ticks off. It is not 100 percent on fleas however but greatly helps.

Many have used our worm Check paste for horses for pets. On cats u can put a 1/4 inch or so on the paw and they clean it off. For dogs about 1 inch per 50 lbs or so… Notice too the ingredients… Much superior to just cloves (which it does contain by the way)

Whole Grapes have shown to be toxic in dogs in a few cases. NOT grape seed extract. For nearly 20 years with thousands and thousands of dogs on such and have never had ANY adverse reaction to our products in which do have extract.

Thanks for asking

Phyliss’s Laminitis question…

Dear Dr. Dan.

My horse has laminitis,  off and on for about 4 years.  He is on a low starch, low sugar diet.  Only grass hay.  He has not been sick for about a year now.

Can he ever go and graze for a few minutes?

Should I just keep him off grass forever?

Thanks,  Phyllis

Absolutely… BUT get him off the low starch, commercial feed junk.

Listen to the audio on the what to feed your horse page , read the article on laminitis and search the www.askdrdan.com site for previous answers to the same question…. http://askdrdan.com/?s=laminitis

Commercial feeds are the biggest cause.

Also read the article called perfect pastures in our library section and in the magazine.

Feel free to get back with me after reviewing the links, articles, audios etc.

Elizabeth asked about her “easy keeper”

This spring I added a beautiful 7 yo Friesen/Morgan gelding–all Frieisen except for the "easy keeper" part.

When I bought him he appeared quite fit (after winter) but the second he started eating even limited grass, he started packing on weight. He gets only a couple hours / day on grass and the rest on grass/hay with lots of movement. I see you have the Critical Care product and the Weight Check oil…He is on your Cocosoya (2oz)and I wonder if the weight check is very different?

Can I put him on the Critical care now, before winter? Otherwise he is very healthy so far with great feet and I want to keep him that way.

I really prefer the weight check oil and actually get better results. Please also be sure to check out our website called. www.WhatToFeedYourHorse.com. This feeding program has helped thousands with weight issues. It discusses the problems of commercial feeds etc. For instance these hydrogenated fats are killing us AND our horses.  Commercial feeds are full of them so I really try to get them off all commercial feed. The audio is great.

There is also an article in the library and magazine about feeding. Most horses don’t need the critical care but it really does help support the sugar level to proper amounts. It will hasten normalcy along for sure.  Fortunately a tub or two is all that is generally needed along with the feeding program.

Thanks for asking.

Thomas/Bridget about winter shelter plus a testimonial

Dr. Dan,

First want to thank you for providing such wonderful products.

My wife and I have had two TWH for just about a year now. They both came to us in not so good shape but thanks to you, we now have two VERY healthy and beautiful horses that we are very proud of.

With that said, I would like to share with you what we have been feeding our horses and well as ask you a question about shelter.

We believe in going natural all the way. We believe in going barefoot only, Although I am still learning and probably will always be, I have spent this past year training with a Natural Hoof Care Practitioner as well as learning as much as possible from Pete Ramey on how to properly care for a Barefoot horse. We have had great results to the point where on most rides we can go completely barefoot for 8 hours straight on our trail rides. Nevertheless we still must boot our horses on those trails that have very rocky terrain. But i wont bore you with all the details of our decision to go barefoot.

We have our horses turned out 24/7 in roughly a 5 acre pasture. They are feed 1qt of Rolled oats with your "just add oats" supplement and 2oz of "H2Oil". Once in the morning and once at night. They have a complete free feeding source of "Red-Cel" at all times.  We don’t believe in having our horses vaccinated (Unless absolutely Necessary) so we add a natural wormier to their feed M-W-F to their diet as well.  Again, we have been blessed by seeing two VERY beautiful and in my opinion two very healthy horses. We are constantly getting complements on how shining our horses coats are just as an example.

Anyway..  With everything that has been going on in our life we have been in the processes of trying to get our barn built so that our horses can have free access to some sort of shelter. Unfortunately, this has been a long and tedious process and will most likely not be finished this winter.

We live in mountains in SouthWest VA so our winters can sometimes be very cold. With that said, after reading your article on Winter Woes, I am now concerned that we may not have enough shelter for them this winter.  We have purchased rain sheets as well as warming coats for them but is that enough?  I can easily put up a small lean-to shelter if need be but is it really necessary?

I would really like your opinion on the matter.

Thank you,

Thomas & Bridget

Thanks so  much for your email guys!
I appreciate your kind words.

We live in northeast tn and have many horses. Some have shelter some not. Funny how even those that do have shelter often just don’t use. I personally think you will be in good shape and wouldn’t panic at all. A cover and or trees to get under is always good though if possible.

Thanks again for your email

Roger’s question about idea water PH for horses…

I will be putting in new wells and there is a company that cleans up well water, removes minerals etc. The can also regulate the PH factor.

What would you recommend as an ideal PH for horses?

Thank you very much for your great service to us horse owners and breeders.

Hello,

I hope you enjoyed a blessed and safe weekend wherever you are in the world.

A quick update on last weeks email in which I announced my new presence on Facebook so that I can connect with more of you, more often. As of this writing I have now connected with over 370 friends and having a great time of it as we continue to learn the ropes of that arena.

I appreciate your friendship above all else. In fact it was that reason we didn’t create a "fan" page presence and decided to stay with the traditional "friend" listing.

When you connect with me, I want it to be as a friend and not a fan—the latter, just don’t seem right.

The questions coming through the different sites on the internet continue to keep me enjoyably busy.

Most questions are from horse owners and if you’ve read those postings you see that very very often I refer people to the information shared at WhatToFeedYourHorse.com

Another common thread that runs through the questions and the situations that many face with their horses, pets and themselves is the need to De-tox and to De-ox!

DePlan…

The natural ingredients in our products often serve as catalysts that trigger a bodies built-in mechanism to help to restore health.

A search on the AskDrDan.com site for the word "detox" will bring up a number of questions/answers about situations in which I discuss the need to get rid of the bad stuff from within… and these are issues that you and your animals are dealing with not just on the inside, but on the outside as well!

If you go to these search results> http://askdrdan.com/?s=detox you’ll gather much more information than I can share in just one email, and I encourage you to do so.

Red-Cal, Redoxx, Health Check and Joint Check (for both horses and pets) and Cleanse Factor are the products we have formulated and that you’ll see referred by me to help accomplish your need to fight toxins and the oxidative stress present in the environment. Each of these products feature potent and proven ingredients that simply and naturally get the job done!

Even our Grape Balm products with Grape Seed Extract are invaluable products that will help with many surface conditions.

Chemicals With In Us…

National Geographic paid $15,000 to test a writer for toxins within his body and as you will see in his article he found out more than he wanted to and went on a journey to learn more about this problem.

Now while this article (click here to open) is reporting the findings from a human perspective, it is relevant to horses and pets as well.

It’s important now more than ever to ask yourself…

What on earth, will I, my horse or my pet- breathe, eat, drink or touch today?

We’ll be here to help.

Bob, also asked about moon blindness…

Snoopy, an 18 yr. old Appy x Arab gelding has been diagnosed with uveitis.

He also has reccuring lameness thought to be associated with navicular. He is on 7acres pasture yr round.

What would you recommend I supplement him with to help prevent further damage to his eyes and help him with keeping his joints supple with out stressing out his kidneys?

Uveitis or commonly known as moon blidness, is definitely a tough issue but we have had success…

Personally I feel it is an autoimmune type issue. "Something" triggers the reaction of inflammation in the eye, often both eyes.

My "gut feeling" as to cause is chemicals, vaccines, dewormers or at least something along these lines. thus the key would to success here is to provide a detox liver support (our Health Check supplement and also RED CAL….listen to the audio on the library section and also see page 36 of the magazine) and also anti-inflammatory benefits as well. .

In your case however I would suggest the Joint Check instead of Health Check because it will help the other issues you asked about and has these attributes PLUS it already has all the ingredients of  Health Check already in it….. sort of like 2 products in one.

I would also give twice the amount the label calls for. this product has helped many with the probelms you have.

Use and enjoy the articles and websites referenced below and thanks for asking!

Martine w/ question about Bug Check (& welts)

Ok, so I have bug check, but my horse won’t eat it even with oats. What is the secret to get my horse to eat this garlic stuff? She gets really bad welts every summer, and they wind up open sores; so she needs help Help!

Thank you for your expedient response.

Just start over with a pinch and work back up..it is just never an issue but sometimes they do have to get used to it.

Just so you know it is less than 10% garlic.

Also if your horse has sores you may want to do more than Bug Check. sounds like you need to pull out the "big guns" see the first article in the magazine on allergies, also see the what to feed your horse website below and also go to the www.askdrdan.com website and search for allergies, hives, etc.

Don’t get me wrong BUG CHECK is awesome and helped thousands and thousands but if sores develop, the problem is not just bugs, the whole immune system should be addressed.

I suggest Aller Check for immune support. Health Check to help detox the body with liver support (to help get rid of the "junk" that is already in the body.

I also suggest the feeding program instead of commercial feeds that contain all types of potential allergens. (allergies start in the gut.

Cassie asked about natural treatment for uveitis / moon blindness…

Is there a natural horse treatment for uveitis or moon blindness?

Thanks

Yes and no.

Nothing specific but we have had great success with our Critical Care Founder/Laminitis formula. This formula is tremendous support for any inflammatory situation including this one.

Personally I feel that this situation is very related to environmental issues from chemicals, such as one might find in dewormers vaccinations etc. Therefore is would also seem important to help get rid of such "junk" in the body.

For this detox support Redoxx and our Joint Check (this also has anti-inflammatory benefits and antioxidant properties. See the magazine page 36 to see how it would take 11 buckets of carrots and apples to equal one scoop antioxidant wise, note everything in Heath Check is already in Joint Check). One other issue is to not put more "junk" back in. Commercial feed is also a source of such. See the info on what to feed your horse below to help with this contributing factor.

Thanks for asking!
